Building landing pages is a powerful strategy for growing your email list. The primary goal of these pages is to persuade your audience to take one specific action, such as signing up for a newsletter or making a purchase. To incentivize people to provide their email addresses, it’s common to offer a content upgrade, such as a valuable resource like an ebook, guide, or video.

You won’t find these landing pages in your main navigation, as they stand on their own. Landing pages can be used in a variety of ways (for example, you can create a landing page for every banner ad you create).

1. Personalize the call-to-action (CTA) for every blog post or landing page.

According to HubSpot, personalized calls-to-action are 42% more likely to generate submissions than a generic call-to-action, which is almost twice as many.

2. Add a pop-up or slide-in to each page of your site.

You might find pop-ups annoying at first, but I’m not talking about those early 2000 pop-ups that promised to make you a model. The ads I am talking about are timed pop-ups, otherwise known as onsite retargeting. Users can receive a pop-up relevant to the content on your page or to their behavior after spending a certain amount of time on your page.

3. Create a timed pop-up survey.

The majority of people don’t visit a new website and immediately think, “Huh, where’s the email sign-up form?” You need your viewers to feel invested in your content before asking for their email address.

4. Make your CTA’s “no, thanks” copy humorous or sarcastic.

Every day, we are inundated with “Yes or No” web offers. If you want to increase your email list, you might want to inject a little personality into your call to action copy.

5. Your CTA should describe value.

You’ve discussed different formats for CTAs (including pop-up ads or personalized offers embedded in blog posts), but what about the language? Getting clicks doesn’t just require humor and sarcasm.

6. Promote your email newsletter via your social media accounts and email signature

The fact that you don’t have a long list of email subscribers doesn’t mean you don’t have a network. Building an email list is easy if you have a following on Twitter, a fan base on Facebook, or businesses you communicate with via email.

7.  Make sure everyone signs up as soon as possible.

Your landing pages and blog posts should contain personalized CTAs strategically placed. However, what about the few, but real, visitors who want to sign up immediately?

8. Include a CTA on your About Us page.

About Us pages have the highest conversion rates among all pages on your website. If you don’t care about a business, how often do you visit their About Us page?
